Three Phone Apps You Need When Expecting

I don’t know about you….but I’m assuming you are like me and have several apps on your phone that you’ve downloaded. Chances are you probably use the same 5-10 in any given week but some are more seasonal….like these: my favorite pregnancy apps! I am so glad I was referred to some of these so wanted too share them with you!

None of this is sponsored…but I wanted a quick place for you any preggos out there to have a few resources that I’ve been grateful for this go around.

Let’s jump right into it….here are the THREE apps you need when you are expecting.

What to Expect

Honesty time – I never read the book, What to Expect When You Are Expecting. I love children’s books…but don’t make much time for my own reading. Sure, I’ll listen to an audiobook but it’s rare these days for me to pick up a book.

BUT! The author of that book created a fantastic app that I highly recommend.

I love….

Weekly Video Update. Although they are sometimes cheesy, I love hearing about what baby is doing week to week and learning fun facts. They are also on YouTube!

Baby Size Comparison. You’ve seen friends post how big baby is each week and it’s usually a fruit or a vegetable. But what about the category of 80s and 90s nostalgia or movie props?! I love looking every week to see the other categories of how big baby is and thinking of size in different terms besides produce.

There are other fun features like common symptoms, recipes, and a community portal. But I stick with the basics in this app! Overall: the app has a nice user interface, quick videos that are helpful, easy to read written copy, and fun pictures. I check it every Thursday when my week turns over.

Qeepsake

This was a new one for me this pregnancy! I was terrible at the baby book with Hudson. Scrapbooking was my thing when I was younger…but as an adult, I have no patience for it!

Step in…Qeepsake. It is an app that sends you a text message every single day (or maybe however often you ask it to) with a question to add to your virtual baby book. Later on, you can purchase a hard copy but I’m waiting until I have some more photos and responses.

I love….

Text Prompts…and you can respond directly to the number versus having to go into the app. Sometimes I get behind and login either via app or my Mac to answer older questions…but I love that I can do both! Plus most of our pictures are on our phones anyway so you can add a photo directly to your text response.

Multiple Journals. YES! I even have one for Hudson too, which has been so fun to build. The only other place I document what Hudson is up to recently is on Instagram…how cool would it be to have a yearly book for him on his birthday as well!?

Weekly Recap Email. I haven’t been good about sending this out to my friends and family but Qeepsake sends me a weekly “round up” of my responses for both Hudson and Baby H. That would be a cute way to keep your family updated on what’s going on with your kiddos and it’s already created for you!

What types of questions does it ask?

It’s been fun to have a variety of questions between maternity and toddler. Here are some examples for each:

Maternity questions:

  • Are you looking forward to bringing your baby to any special places that you visited when you were child? If so, where?
  • How would you describe your maternity style? Is it different than pre-pregnancy style?
  • Are there any songs right now that you are loving, and can’t wait to share with your baby in the future? If so, list your top three songs:
  • Who had the best reaction to your pregnancy announcement? What did he/she do or say?

Toddler questions:

  • What is Hudson’s favorite toy these days?
  • What was the best part of Hudson’s day?
  • What is Hudson’s favorite bedtime story?
  • If Hudson could pick one thing to do with you, what would it be?

How much does it cost?

I do use the Qeepsake Plus plan which is $3.99/month. It gives me multiple questions, unlimited photo memories, ability to answer previous questions later, import social media posts and to create multiple journals. To me – that’s totally worth it versus buying a hard copy book and forgetting to update it.

Note: while I cannot speak to the quality of the books, they look great! There are two options: hardcover and softcover. Then the pricing also varies based on how many pages are included. Here is a table they include with an estimate (does not include shipping).

Here is a table to give you an estimate of price:

Number of pagesSoftcoverHardcover
30 $19.99$39.99
50$31.99$58.99
100$61.99$106.49
200$121.99$201.49
300$181.99$296.49

GIFT IDEA – you can give an expecting mommy a Qeepsake membership! I think especially for preggos with other children, this is such a game changer. Plus pregnancy brain is a real thing and I love having the built in reminders. My text comes in every single day at 1pm (when Hudson goes down for a nap) and I know to expect it as part of my daily routine now!

Expectful

I am sad to say I only learned about this app last week (thank you to my sorority sister Stacy) but thankful to have it for my final weeks of pregnancy. So if you are just newly expecting, I hope this app helps you the next 7-8 months! Especially since quality sleep at night can be super hard to come by during pregnancy.

Expectful is a meditation app for fertility, pregnancy and motherhood.

I have been using Abide for several months for guided CHRISTIAN meditations (also very cool and worth looking into) but I love that Expectful is geared toward motherhood (at any stage).

I love….

Shorter Meditation Options. You can choose 5, 10 or 20 minute sessions. They aren’t all for falling asleep but that’s been my major reason for use thus far. Sometimes, 20 minutes is all you need!

Women’s Voices. Some of the guided meditations I’ve used in the past are all men. And I didn’t even realize that they were the majority UNTIL I used this app. Although I think it’s hilarious the founder of this app is a childless man, I love that he knew women would want to hear from other women especially in a motherhood meditation format. The women’s voices are very soothing and I love feeling empowered in my femininity!

Options. This app does have options galore. Some are sleep focused. Some are trimester focused. Some are about IVF. Some are about connecting to your baby. Some are about trusting your body. The pregnant brain is a wacky place to be sometimes – swayed by our beautiful myriad of emotions and feelings based on what’s happening in any current moment. I like choices and I’m glad that I have them in this app!

OVERALL – I will definitely be a daily listener for my last month of pregnancy and know I will be hitting up that “during labor” section in the coming weeks. I’m in the middle of my two week free trial and then it’s $9.99/month of $59.99/year.

There you have it…the THREE APPS I recommend during pregnancy! What am I missing? Any other suggestions?
