Down Syndrome Awareness Month

DSAM: Mama Alison & Quinn

Tell us a little bit about you and your family…

My name is Alison and my daughter, Quinn, is almost 4 years old. Quinn was born in Arizona but my husband, Josh, and I decided to move to Florida when Quinn was about 18 months old to be closer to family. Quinn enjoys playing with her baby dolls, playing outside and being with family and friends.

What’s the one word you would pick to describe Quinn?

One word I would use to describe Quinn would be sassy. She is full of life, brave and feisty! When people are around her, they light up.

What would you tell a parent who just received a diagnosis of Down syndrome?

I had a prenatal diagnosis so if I could tell another parent who just received a prenatal diagnosis I would first say congratulations!

I would let them know that all of the emotions and feelings they have are completely normal and valid. They are allowed to be angry, upset and worried. They are also allowed to be happy!

I would also tell them that this is going to be the best journey they will ever go on! They are now going to be welcomed into a club of parents who have been there, who understand and who “get it”. The people they will meet from here on will be supportive, encouraging and so helpful!

Welcome to our tribe!!

How can people find you?
